prologue.there was once a man from across the sea who loved his wife very
when first they married,
he was 10 years too old
she a decade too naïve.
he worshipped her in so many silent gestures,
gradually the parables on her lips coiled and drifted from poppyhaze to words and
affectionate whispers, his prophet hands deciphering the scriptures of her
spine, printing prayers into her flesh
until eventually the bitter
spaces poured out empty, and she bore the product of their shipwrecked
marriage, salvaged into something pure.
and for a moment,
but in the cellar of his mind he knew.
he was all too aware of the dangers out there,
of the tragedies he orchestrated daily,
the rancid rules of powerful men.
of the work that consumed him.
she was perfection pure under the edges of her ignorance, crafted higher than the life he provided
